Soln. Iss question me ek boat 8 hr me 48 km downstream me jate hai and 12 hr me 48 km upstream me jata hai. Aur humme iss question se still water me boat ki speed and current or stream ki speed nikal na hai.

Sabse pehle manligiye,
Still water me boats ko speed x km/ hr hai and Current ki speed y km/ hr hai.

Ab stream ki disha me boat ki speed hoga =(Boat ki speed + Stream ki speed)

So downstream me boats ki speed
          x + y =6     .............(1)
 [ because Speed = Distance / time = 48/8 = 6.]

And stream ki opposite me boat ki speed hoga =(Boat ki speed - Stream ki speed)

So upstream me boats ki speed
         x - y = 4.  ................... (2)
[ because Speed = Distance / time = 48/12 = 4.].

Abb (1) and (2) equations ko add karte hai
x + y + x - y = 6 + 4.
=> 2x = 10.
=> x = 10/2 = 5
And y = 6 - 5 = 1

Therefore still water me boat ki speed (x) = 5 km/h and current ki speed (y) = 1 km/h.
